Father’s Day is generally celebrated on third Sunday in the month of June to honour paternal bonds & fatherhood. This year, Father’s Day falls on 20th June,2021. HISTORY BEHIND FATHER’S DAY –
In the early 20th century, Father’s Day was not known amongst people. In December month of 1907, there came a Monongah Mining Disaster in Monongah, (this was the most terrific disaster in the US history) which killed almost 360 men out of which 250 of them were fathers leaving behind many of the fatherless kids.
Grace Golden Clayton was one of those fatherless children. After, when he heard about Anna Jarvis successfully published a particular day for Mother’s Day.
Clayton suggested to honour all those fathers, caught by disaster. But his attempt of such beautiful thought was failed in the beginning.
Several other people also made their attempts to particularise a day as celebration of Father’s Day but they couldn’t make it as much popular.
But then in 1909, when Mrs. Sonora Smart Dodd heard about the celebration of the Mother’s Day, so she thought that honouring one of your parents, not the other one is like singling out one of your parents, which is not appropriate. She wants the same respected holiday for fathers like as the mothers have.
Her father William Dodd was a single parent of his six children because her wife & mother of Sonora died after giving birth to her sixth baby. So, William alone managed all the responsibilities very well. That’s why Sonora have a deep thought in mind to popularize the day.
FINALISING THE DATE OF THE FATHER’S DAY CELEBRATION –
Mrs. Dodd convinced Spokane Ministerial Administration & YMCA to celebrate Father’s Day on 5 June. She chooses this date because it was her father’s birthday.
She was successful in convincing the ministers but they refused the date because it was too early to prepare for the celebration hence 19 June was decided.
On 1910, 19 June was the third Sunday of June. Hence third June was decided to be the day celebration on the occasion of Father’s Day.

The significance of father cannot be ignored in our day to day life, just like as mother. A father is the person who works hard in office or whatever the work he did, not for himself but all he does, is only for his kids, their requirements and also spend quality time with their family.
